El Dorado 12-Year rum

El Dorado 12-Year

Guyana | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still

El Dorado 12-Year Rum is composed of a blend of aged rums, all at least 12 years old. The rums are distilled using a combination of stills including coffey stills and a double wooden pot still before being aged in bourbon oak casks.

Demerara Distillers of Guyana produces El Dorado 12-year rum and is the country's last remaining distillery, with origins tracing back to 1670. The name ""El Dorado"" references the legendary city of gold that is said to be in the country's Rupununi region.

Bought this instead of a 15y el dorado, but there is gap this one is not as good.

Little strong alcohol taste. Medium flavour of the oak. The colour is quite dark. Easy sipping neat. U would enjoy. If u don’t like to spend lots of money for a good bottle, this is the one. 7.3 for me.

2023 Update: have pretty much turned this 12 year old into my daily sipper. Find it strikes the right balance for my palate. Bumped my rating to a 9.

This is a really good rum which I have come to appreciate more, as it is better than the price suggests.
Personally prefer the el dorado 15, which has more of the big nose of candied fruit. The 12 is a bit more toned down, but still one I’m glad to sip on neat.

Jedná se o blend kolonové destilace (Coffey Stills ze zaniklých palíren Enmore a Diamond) a kotlíkové destilace (Double Wooden Pot Still z bývalé plantáže Port Mourant). Obsažen by měl být i destilát z originálního francouzského Savalle Still z lihovaru Uitvlugt.
Staření probíhá v dubových sudech po bourbonu.

Aroma: Tabák, čokoláda, výrazně se projevuje skoro nahnilé ovoce
Chuť: těžká bonbónová sladkost, jako bych si nacpal plnou pusu všelijakých sladítek
Dozvuk: Rozinky a hořko-kyselá dřevitost
Sladkost: 3/3
Vůně tohoto rumu je opravdu nádherná, ale vadila mi až přemrštěná sladkost a nahořklý závěr. Z hlediska ceny se však jedná o velice solidní rum za málo peněz.

One of my favorites, especially for the price. With a bit of ice or water and it opens up very nicely.

This is a great everyday sipper. It comes with some caramel, butter scotch, vanilla and oak. As with all El Dorados I've tasted the typical demerara taste is well present.

Fruit, caramel and leather with a slight smoky finish. Excellent both neat and on the rocks

This is my current favorite stock rum. Medium dark golden brown color bursting with full bodied lingering flavors. Nice on the pallet not too sweet and excellent value. Great with an ice ball and cigar.

Has a bit of sharpness, but with a full bodied nice oakey spicy caramel flavour.
Flavour has declined a bit in recent years however, or is at least somewhat variable, as a bottle I bought in 2014 taste better than one I bought in 2019.
