Having tried this after the regular version, the Bumbu XO was a big improvement but still not impressive. A nice sipping rum but it doesnt have a lot going for it. Mild nose, mild flavor, mild mouthfeel. Mostly unremarkable but a solid rum for the price point. Its worth a try as it may be your kind of rum. It wasn't really for me though.
I know most arn't a fan, but I thought that very distinct banana/vanilla flavor to the original really made it stand out. The higher proof they tried in this just made it feel like they threw it in half hazard. The original enjoyment I wanted to experiance just up and left the flavor profile and I was left disappointed.
On its own there isn't much burn at all and it's a good sipper rum, but the overall true lack of flavor qnd just dry notes just did not do it for me at all, and truly left me just wanting a bottle of the original more.
Fun to try and sip, but would just get the original in a heartbeat
Bettee than the other one but still rather mediocre in taste
I really like the original Bumbu Rum. This one has more of an older experienced taste, and added tobacco flavour possibly. Heavier than original. Which rum and tobacco have probably went hand in hand for years. Good pre supper drink with coke.
I was expecting something lighter but this rum is truly strong with harder alcohol aroma. Scent is gentle but after first sip you get proper rum punch. I will not recommend this as a gift, but for rum enthusiast is suitable. I'm not a pro, but it reminds me Matusalem Grand Reserva. And I appreciate stylish pirate looking bottle aswell.
I preferred the cheaper, artificial banana laced predecessor. I think there are rums in this price range that are far superior. I wouldn't buy it again.
Something about these bottles always made me think it was foolishness.
I had tried Their regular bottling too and it was ridiculously sweet.
Then one day I saw this one on a great sale, like $9 off per bottle, so I picked it up.
It’s really good! Not great, but good!
Still, not gonna buy it again at the $40+ price point, but will do so if I ever see a good sale again.
Really different than Bumbu original, way more deep, balanced and raw.
I have to admit that I am a sucker for unique packaging and this bottle looks exactly like what you think rum should look like. I tried it on the rocks and then with an ounce or two of coke. I liked it both ways. For a mid-priced rum it was quite nice. I have not tried drinking straight from the bottle yet, but today is Talk Like A Pirate Day, so I may have to try that tonight.
Notes of cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg also come into play. It has little burn to no burn.
"It is a fair bit drier. There is a touch of oak and a little bit of spice. Traces of ginger and little cinnamon. It’s very very short finish wise."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I like this one .. much likes its younger sibling, nice and smooth and not overly sweet
