Plantation XO 20th Anniversary rum

Plantation XO 20th Anniversary

Multiple | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still

Plantation XO 20th Anniversary rum is a combination of pot-stilled and column-stilled Barbadian rums that are initially aged in the Caribbean in ex-bourbon casks for 12-20 years. They are then transported to France for a second 12-18 months aging in small French oak casks.

The first bottle of Plantation XO 20th Anniversary was created for the head of Cognac Ferrand Estate Alexandre Gabriel to honor his 20th year running the company. This special gift has resulted in the bottling we see today.

Although it's not the absolute top, for its price it's a smooth (yet not simple), very pleasant drink.

I’m not normally an ‘aged’ drinker, but I would buy again

Smooth on nose as well as in mount. Very nice for sipping. Sweet but not so much as Zacapa 23 for example. You can feel vanilla, caramel even coconut inside. Very nice bottle too. With price about 40Eur not expensive, this is nice sipping rum for every evening.
Recent update after coming back to bottle. It is a bit burning compared to other rums I have rated on 8. In example Dictador Insolent is much more smooth to me. Now I would give 7.5 to this one

This rum is on the top of my list so far. Very flavorful and as smooth as your,(insert appropriate analogy here), and almost as enjoyable.

I can taste coconut, molasses, and dried fruit. It’s a decent sipper. But I don’t like how sweet this rum is. It’s almost like syrup. Good for the price range but it doesn’t compare to other rums in my cabinet.

Smell: Strong floral coconut, brown sugar, vanilla cream, fresh bananas, butter scotch candy, caramel, old lemons note in the back. Not a very aged rum/s, yet interesting due to the pronounced coconut note. Well balanced as usual for all Plantation rums, somewhat rich - there is some complexity and it is somewhat interesting as a sipping rum.

Taste: Quite sweet (guessing around 20g/l+), floral and rich, brown sugar, coconuts, burned bananas, nothing stands out but it is very drinkable and the rums are well mixed together – medium complexity.

Nice smooth cane sugar rum with a hint of caramel. Perfect straight up.

This is my 3rd bottle of rum, Comparing to Foursquare Detente is like heaven and hell. This Plantation smells like cheap spirit, doesn't have any concrete taste, the most intense feel is "you dring somehow alcohol" nothing more. It's 100 times better pay more for Foursquare Detente which is full of smells and flavour or buy cheap vodka and get drunk by it if you need to do it. No pleasure with drinking it
