Appleton Estate Extra 12-Year

A really good rum for its price. It can easily compete with other rums twice its price.

Smooth and not overly sweet like a lot of rums. Lots of oak and Jamaican rum funk. Full bodied, thick, and flavorful. It would be a great rum if the funk could be dialed down.

The funk is there, but 12 years have taken the edge off and left a very smooth, well rounded versatile product. Sometimes when I reach for a funky rum, this is the one I go for and it does everything well. SUPERIOR mixer.

A nice higher quality Appleton rum. Very good price. Not as flavourful or as smooth as I like; but it is rather balanced. Well worth the price and clearly much better than other cheaper Appleton rums.

I don't typically shoot my spirits. I like to sip and savor. However, if you want to take small shots on the beach in between beers under the hot sun, this is it.
It's super smooth.
To be fair it's also a great sipping rum as well, but it lacks the strong characteristics I like in my savory rums.

Too much alcohol on the nose, it's overwhelming and makes it hard to find other aromas. It's somewhere between whiskey and rum actually. Starts fruity and sweet with some oak and ends with hints of smoke and alcohol. Tried it with some stevia coke, not the best rum to mix with coke.
Jamaican rum isn't my favorite kind of rum but I did enjoy it.

Have tasted this rum many times as it seems to be readily available. I'm not much for adding mixers, but sometimes I feel you must

I like this one with cola.
For me aplleton always has like citrus fruit taste in it.
But i like it more then bacardi.

As one can infer from the previous reviews this is definitely not the best "sipper" but we're not all just "sippers". When I want to "sip" I do prefer a slightly sweet rum but when I come home from a stressful day at work (I am an ER nurse) I want something both refreshing and that has a little kick. So I mix myself a Fidel Castro with Appleton 12 year, ginger ale and a 1/4-1/2 lime. This makes the perfect rum for that as far as I'm concerned. It has enough taste to still give that remarkable Caribbean Rum undertone and strong enough to let you know you're not drinking a Shirley Temple.

When sipped you get that great fruitiness of most Jamaican Rums, spicy oak, tangy citrus, caramel and coffee undertones and the warming burn of a good dry spirit. Not your sweetish dessert type rum, your "cut the dust from a rough day at work, put a smile back on your face" type rum. And the best part, quite affordable for the hard working underpaid everyman. Runs $29-$35 in my area. Give it a try before you believe the negative reviews.

The colour is a beautiful dark red-amber, with a scent that is quite strong with spice, oak and hints of banana . Far less sweet than many rums with an overbearing of oak and spice on the palate.

I would recommend to hose who enjoy real dry, spiced rums. It's intensity lingers for some time after each sip. Wouldn't recommend for novices as I've found the flavour can be a bit much for some ( no added sugar/sweetener).

Worth a tryas it is quite good value for the price in my opinion.
