Guyana | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still
El Dorado 12-Year Rum is composed of a blend of aged rums, all at least 12 years old. The rums are distilled using a combination of stills including coffey stills and a double wooden pot still before being aged in bourbon oak casks.
Demerara Distillers of Guyana produces El Dorado 12-year rum and is the country's last remaining distillery, with origins tracing back to 1670. The name ""El Dorado"" references the legendary city of gold that is said to be in the country's Rupununi region.

Love having this on hand, but it's harder to find than I like. Would keep this in my collection at all times if I could.
Well rounded, fairly smooth. Would not prioritize as a re-purchase when I have so many others on wish list, but certainly would be happy if received again as a gift. Light molasses flavor, oaky on the nose.
All of the El Dorado12 year seems to really hit the mark. A Nice full body with a woodsy background and long finish.
The opportunity to line up all the age expressions of El Dorado is great and Each stand alone as an excellent rum. Stepping through the 5, 8, 12, 15, 18, 21 and 25 provides one of the best chances to experience how aging changes spirit aroma and taste.
On the nose I get apricot, pear, orange, red wine, oak, vanilla and peas. The palate is honey, oak, pepper, vanilla, and caramel. The finish is ginger, licorice, and a faint touch of oak.
Where I live this is a great value buy given the sipability of this rum; would be perhaps nicer if presented at a slightly bigger ABV. While this rum is "dosed" with some sugar, I don't find it too sweet or too artificial tasting - the underlying spirit still comes through.
Lush tropical fruit and spice nose with hints of honey and dark sugar...

It’s sweeter with more delicate fruit flavours coming to the fore.
"It’s very sweet and quite light. It’s very easy drinking. As a sipping rum it as easy to drink."
