El Dorado 12-Year rum

El Dorado 12-Year

Guyana | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still

El Dorado 12-Year Rum is composed of a blend of aged rums, all at least 12 years old. The rums are distilled using a combination of stills including coffey stills and a double wooden pot still before being aged in bourbon oak casks.

Demerara Distillers of Guyana produces El Dorado 12-year rum and is the country's last remaining distillery, with origins tracing back to 1670. The name ""El Dorado"" references the legendary city of gold that is said to be in the country's Rupununi region.

Of all their aged runs this is my favourite. Sweet, complex and delicious.

I love Demerara rums and one of the great joys is that El Dorado 12 is available pretty much everywhere. Mixed with lime juice and a 2:1 Demerara syrup, it makes for the best Dark Daiquiri.

This is a great jumping off point for better than bar rail rums.

It's readily available at the LCBO for myself in Ontario.

An affordable daily go to.

I have been drinking bourbon for a while now and felt like I hit the ceiling for tastes I enjoyed. I stumbled upon the Rum Reddit and found myself intrigued. After some searching and seeing some solid recommendations, I landed on El Dorado 12. This is a great sipper with a sweet cinnamon nose. You can smell the oak character, which is wonderful for my bourbon nose. The fruit forward scents hit you from time to time as well. The taste leans into the sweet vanilla and oak while also maintaining a wonderful fruit cocktail cup. One of my favorites that I love exploring in both a drink and alone.

Nose:
Molasses and mead, ethanol giving away to higher fruity alcohol notes that blind the nose for further notes.

Palate:
Again molasses and mead, slight ethanol burn on the tongue, giving away to a sweet finish reminiscing of Stevia sweetener.

Personal:
The first smell I thought, well this is nice. It is a simple rum well made, I'll be getting a bottle of that as I think it will pair well with mixers and cocktails.

Really satisfying level of sweetness. Not syropy like some sweet rums but sweet and super smooth. Really easy to sip over ice. Good value for money too imo

Shame we lost Guyana but we’ve still got the rum and that’s the main thing. This is everso smooth — delectable!
