The El-Dorado Rare Collection Skeldon 2000 SWR is a rum from Guyana from the Demerara distillery. The rum distilled in the single column still has the mark SWR and was produced in 2000. It was allowed to mature tropically for 18 years and was bottled as a single cask in 4368 bottles at a cask strength of 58.3% alcohol without additives or sugar.
The rum is wonderfully balanced on the nose and shows a nice sweetness. Caramel, vanilla, honey meet raisins, wood, spice, roasted aromas and some earthy notes. Quite tasty, you can't wait long for the first sip. The alcohol does a great job on the palate. The aromas are distributed nicely and it gets wonderfully warm. The rum is creamy and has a great body. Lots of caramel with raisins pickled in honey. Vanilla and some dark chocolate. But also more wood with vanilla and spice. Tannins become stronger and there are more bitter substances on the finish. The rum becomes drier and spicy wood notes remain.
I admit that I have rarely drunk a glass with 58.3% alcohol so quickly. A round, tasty dark rum that encourages sipping. And it is not lacking in complexity. Almost everything is correct here. The SWR comes very close to 10/10. Only the nose could be a bit more intense and it is almost a to easy sipper...
Hier stimmt eigentlich fast alles. Der SWR kommt der 10/10 schon sehr nahe. Nur die Nase könnte etwas intensiver sein.
This one is the best rum I have ever had. Chocolate meets caramell, wood and fruits such as coconut and banana. I could smell it forever before drinking it.
To my knowledge, it is one of the only five rums representing the SVR/SWR mark. Bottled at 58.3%, it welcomes with an intense aroma. The initial sensations are dominated by Guyaneese molasses and nail polish remover, which is followed by dust and petrol. It was a pleasant surprise to smell coke, blown-off candles and the aroma of the forest: resin and cones. The aromas develop with time, bringing to the nose kitchen spices; herbs, marjoram, oregano and thyme. Notes of coffee start to appear, interplaying with the coke, as the whole sensation shifts to fruity and dessert notes; orange, dried apricot, nougat, chocolate, brown sugar and warm wood, concluded with an industrial metallic smell. After letting the rum breathe for an hour a surprise appears: a smell of bacon, burnt fat and meat, which anticipates an extremely interesting flavour profile.
The initial mouth sensation is rich and astonishing, simultaneously offering coffee, cocoa, and the sweet and salty taste. Surprisingly, notes of bacon appear, balanced by the sourness of wood. The burn of high ABV is entirely absent as we are stunned by the variety and intensity of flavours. The taste turns sweeter with time, bringing to mind Werther's Original caramel candies, molasses and coconut. Finish is composed of dried fruits, dry wood, accompanied by coffee and molasses. Dried fruits return in the warming-up aftertaste, among which orange is the most pronounced.
This is clearly one of the most interesting rums I've tried, doubtlessly meeting the high expectations connected to the name of Skeldon. This tasting made me desire to try other SVR/SWR marks.
First of all i want to show my gratitude towards the people who recreated the legendary (Velier) Skeldons that most of us missed out. The Velier releases are our of reach for most of us now. And i am more than happy to have the opportunity to try this sample that vomi shared with me. Not considering the price (250-300€) this is without a doubt a rum i really want to have in my basement. Most impressive part for me is the very long aftertaste. But i didnt have this "wow im comleteley speechless-moment" with this one. Cant rate it a 10 because i can imagine this even better.
Everything that one can expect from a fine, tropic-matured Demerara rum. No flaws. That sweet-sour, molasses, Christmas cake, dark chocolate, mocha coffee, aromatic wood...WOW.
You get wafts of treacle toffee, juicy raisins and some notes of dried apricot and some canned peaches.
"The initial sip is woody. The finish is long, rich and pretty spicy with a fruity kick to the end. Sultanas, satsumas and some Chocolate covered raisins."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Velmi pěkná vůně, ale zbytek je velmi dřevitý a nahořklý. V Rare Collection patří společně s Enmore k těm "slabším" kouskům. 8-/10.
