Plantation XO 20th Anniversary rum is a combination of pot-stilled and column-stilled Barbadian rums that are initially aged in the Caribbean in ex-bourbon casks for 12-20 years. They are then transported to France for a second 12-18 months aging in small French oak casks.
The first bottle of Plantation XO 20th Anniversary was created for the head of Cognac Ferrand Estate Alexandre Gabriel to honor his 20th year running the company. This special gift has resulted in the bottling we see today.

Best rum I ever had. It is so smooth, probably due to being double barrel aged.
It is a wonderful sipper, less sweet than a Diplomatico reserva. There is almost no burn. It has a buttery aftertaste reminiscent of fine cognac.
It goes well with a Cohiba. Anybody who is into rum must try this.
The bottle is really sexy with its wooden cap, and straw binding.
Though I have only started delving into rum seriously since a Caribbean trip three years ago I found this rum to be a grear sipping rum. I struggle identifying specific flavours in any rum but this is smooth, very tasty and worth the price.
Plantation xo - 20th anniversary
Best rum I've had so far!!
Sweet and ripe tropical fruits, Banana annanas. Not to much else because sweetness takes over. Good for non dry rum drinkers and beginners. And at least offers a quit unique taste
It is certainty for every moment. Sweet but not sugar, taste more expressive than smell.
So, this is my first rating here. This used to be my favorite sipping rum of about 50 that I have tried.
Recently a friend of mine, who I introduced to this rum, told me he purchased a bottle and it wasn't very good. So, I purchased a new bottle and found it to have a little bit of a harsh alcohol soon as you tastes it that gets hotter as you swallow and lingers after. It used to be as smooth as any rum with no harsh burn at all. In fact, this is the reason I made my way here, to see if others noticed the same thing.
I also did a little asking around and heard that Plantation has recently reduced the amount of sugar added to this after distillation. Personally, I think it is much worse. Those who dislike the addition of sugar may find this better but for me it disqualifies it as a sipper and makes it a mixer, but it is way to expensive for a mixer. This would have been a 10 in 2019 but it's a 7 now.
A also saw a post by a gentleman from Romania who shows photo of a fake cap and genuine caps. I made contact with Plantation through an acquaintance and they have not heard of any fakes out there. My online spirits purveyor says the same thing.
Clean taste no ethanol taste, has added sugar and the sweetness cones through well, mixes well
It tastes pretty much like a coconut liqueur.
"An overly sweet saccharin note which make the rum taste artificial. ."

Very good but a touch too sweet for my taste. Beautiful smell and color.
