Plantation XO 20th Anniversary rum

Plantation XO 20th Anniversary

Multiple | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still

Plantation XO 20th Anniversary rum is a combination of pot-stilled and column-stilled Barbadian rums that are initially aged in the Caribbean in ex-bourbon casks for 12-20 years. They are then transported to France for a second 12-18 months aging in small French oak casks.

The first bottle of Plantation XO 20th Anniversary was created for the head of Cognac Ferrand Estate Alexandre Gabriel to honor his 20th year running the company. This special gift has resulted in the bottling we see today.

A bit on the pricey side, but I think it’s worth it. It’s not something that you can drink lots if in a single sitting, but it’s worth trying.

One of my first entry level sippers about 4 years ago, I still love it. I started off sipping sweeter rums like this and El Dorado 12 and Diplomatico Reserva. I have come to appreciate many drier, hotter rums from Jamaica and Barbados etc, but I still enjoy Plantation XO as a nice smooth and sweet sipper. Caramel nose, brown sugar, molasses with hints of coconut, chocolate and oaky aging and a fruity undertone. If you are against added sugar this isn’t for you. If you like sweeter rums like El Dorado 12 and Diplomatico Reserva, you might like this. That being said I also enjoy dry rums like Foursquare and Appleton.

Great color, smooth, complex taste that drinks easy on the palate. A well-balanced rum.
