Plantation XO 20th Anniversary rum

Plantation XO 20th Anniversary

Multiple | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still

Plantation XO 20th Anniversary rum is a combination of pot-stilled and column-stilled Barbadian rums that are initially aged in the Caribbean in ex-bourbon casks for 12-20 years. They are then transported to France for a second 12-18 months aging in small French oak casks.

The first bottle of Plantation XO 20th Anniversary was created for the head of Cognac Ferrand Estate Alexandre Gabriel to honor his 20th year running the company. This special gift has resulted in the bottling we see today.

I really like this rum as an all round smooth tasting rum.

Color: Is nice and you don't have a feeling that it is overcolored by adding caramel.

Taste: To me this has a quite spicy taste, in a mild way. I sense a lot of oriental spices and a distinct flavor of cinnamon. Also fried coconut. The taste has a nice balance between taste and spirit and you have a feeling that it is quite old.

Price: At this pricerange its a good rum to have in your cabinet. Its indeed a fine rum, but doesn't suit my tastepalette very well.

Good taste to that price. Smooth and yet comlex. To just drink or enjoy with coffee, chocolat or in a cocktail

Fab - not "slap in the face" strong and easy to drink. Straight no ice.

One of my favourites. Smooth taste. Good sipping rum with just right amount of aftertaste and bite.

Being new to the rum world, I was immediately on the hunt for a decent sipping rum. This was the first bottles above $35 that I splurged on, and man oh man am I glad I took the plunge! This rum is deceptively smooth and with a subtle sweetness, a lovely caramel color, and excellent presentation from box to bottle. I particularly enjoy Plantation's use of straw on the exterior of the bottle, as well as the heavy oversized wooden cap for the bottle. If you have access to it, grab it while you can, you get an incredible bang for your buck!

Have done a few blind tastings with a number of different rums, and this has always come out on top for me.

Great balanced rum, exceptional flavors of chocolate and vanilla well complimented by long aging in french oak… a Master piece!!!

Can't fault the presentation - lovely box and bottle - but I was expecting much more flavour and a longer finish than I got from this.
Benefitted from a drop or two of water but I still felt like it was holding back.
I will caveat this review by saying that I had an omicrom variant of Covid about 6 weeks prior, and it may well be that my sense of taste isn't quite back to normal. I may return and revisit.
