Initially, I was very puzzled by this rum. A strange earthiness reminded me of agave spirits, oddly enough. However, after more time with the bottle, I was introduced to notes of banana, apricot, and Jamaican funk (represented in pleasant and bright flavours, rather than Appleton toastiness). I decided to challenge myself to find a place for this rum in cocktails. My findings... it was a lot easier than I thought. While not 1-to-1 with Jamaican staples like Smith & Cross or Appleton, it's bold and unique flavours sit in the same area and keep cocktails just as balanced - simply adding a different dimension.
On its own - eh. In cocktails - a fun new tool.
Kinda smells like nail polish remover. Ha. But I ended up liking it.
Dry but full of aroma. It's not for those who like sweet rums. If you like whisky you should try Xaymaca.

At this price point, what a value. Wonderful addition. Not for special occasions but nice for Friday happy hour.
I usually have a great weakness to Plantation rums, but to be quite frank this one did not come to my taste. It is so dry that the taste is sort of blank, reminding more a home made "eau de vie" than rum. Definitely prefer the other brands of Plantation, like Barbados, Fiji or Guatemala.
I'm a fan of Jamaican rum, and when a friend offered to pick me up a bottle in his travels I asked for something I could not get locally, and he found this.
Appleton 8 is my gold standard for a solid sipping rum, and I tend to compare everything with this.
The Plantation... Well, it is dry, as stated, but it tastes rather like it had a big wad of band aides in the bottom of the bottle. It's very medicinal, almost industrial chemical in character.
Maybe I got a bad bottle and maybe it'll improve with a bit of air, but as of right now I'm more than happy that I will not be in a position to pick this one up again. I'd find cheap vodka more palatable, and you might, too.
A really nice spicy delivery.
"Quite spicy, quite a lot of heat β white pepper, ginger and all spice."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

A nice one with a cup of coffee. Hade higher expectations, but it's more than the average but not at the top. Well done but you can do better.
