Note: I'm a sipper. My opinion is based on sipping characteristics.
One of the first rums I ever tried. A good, solid sipper. Problem is, there are much better alternatives in this price range and some cheaper ones that are even better. Totally worth a try but once you have had the 12 and 15 year old, you won't ever go back to it.
It's nice, but I expected it to be more smooth. I enjoyed it though...
Smell - The ED 8 has a pronounced wood and spices character compared to the 12 (which is richer and more complex), has a well-balanced, floral and rich character for 8 YO. Wood and spices are quite pronounced, brown sugar, honey, maybe some old ripe peaches.
Taste - somewhat complex for a 8 YO rum, quite pleasant sipping rum, well balanced not too sweet or dry - just right in the middle, you can't feel the alcohol. Rich brown sugar mixed with wood and a lot of spices, not too unique but very drinkable, resembling a "classic rum" - very smooth for the age compared to other "solera blenders 12YO +..."
For a 17€ rum, this is one of the best value for money rums IMO - that is why I mark it as a 7 not a 6.
Has a similar taste to other rums at its price point, such as Appleton's 8-year. I wouldn't go out of my way to get it, but it's worth trying.
Nose is surprisingly unremarkable, although color has a nice, deep caramel-amber hue and promises good things to follow. Initial taste is a little unrefined, but the finish more than makes up for this. Despite being a bit thin in body, this 8 year offering has a superb medium finish that gives a bit of warmth with a lot of burnt caramel and a little toasted marshmallow notes. IMHO, this is more of a sipping rum. It would be a shame to use such a nice rum as a mixer. Fits the bill nicely as a little brother for the 12 yr. Different enough that I will keep both in my collection.

It’s floral, there are notes of dark chocolate and dried fruits.
"It isn’t rough but it does have quite a spicy burn and finish. ."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

One of my favorite rums. Great taste, colour and intensity.
