Really solid for the price. Not as good as the 12 year but it's half the price.
When pressed to say my favourite rum (a question with no true answer), I just say El Dorado 12. A well-aged rum with the bold characteristics of a spirit half its age and warm pleasure of one of greater age, it will take a confident and well-earned seat in any scenario.
Countless nights have I found myself sipping this rum neat, alone in a daiquiri and dancing with rums from Jamaica, Barbados, and Nicaragua in more complex mixes.
Oak, orange, baking spice, orange, brown sugar, and a little taste of heaven, itself.
A constant must-have on every bar.
I bought this after reading reviews here. Many people said that its even a nice rum compared to the 12 years old El Dorado, but for unfortunately it was a quiet big disappointment. It has a very sharp, alcoholic taste, almost like a cooking rum. For me the plus 4 years of aging definitely makes a huge difference.
In the Netherlands available under €20, it is a great full bodied rum. Pleasant neat, doesn't leave an afterburn and stands it ground in a cocktail. Therefore a perfect allrounder!
It’s floral, there are notes of dark chocolate and dried fruits.
"It isn’t rough but it does have quite a spicy burn and finish. ."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I like this one a lot. Sweeter than the 12 but with a bit more tang, and lighter wood notes. It is pretty easy to drink; makes for a good sipper, with character that some might prefer over the more aged ones (not me, but...). Definitely more mature and refined than the 5, and it really wants to be its older brother. Good for mixing too, and in my opinion, worth the price difference from the 5 year to just stick with this one.
