Appleton Estate 12-Year Rum is a blend of several rums aged between 12 and 18 years in American oak barrels after being distilled using small-batch copper pot stills.
The rum is produced on the Appleton Estate, which sits in the Nassau Valley in Jamaica. The estate’s origins date back as far as 1655 when the English overthrew the Spanish to rule the island and Frances Dickinson, grandfather of the distillery’s founders, received the land as a reward for his role in the overthrow.

...az Appleton estate V/X megkóstolása után keserű szájízzel nyitottam ki a 12 évest , hogy vajon mit kapok ..de bejött :) illatában fás ,aszalt gyümölcsös, vaniliás , édes ---olyan klasszikus rum illat---lecsengése viszont enyhén kesernyés, közepesen hosszú ,határozott az alkohol jelenléte a torokban .
As I've been trying to expand by rum drinking palette from the usual sweeter rums I thought I'd give this a try because of the famous Appleton name and the affordable price point. I have to say that it has been definitely a tough one for my to crack since it has a much harsher aftertaste than what I'm used to. And even though the more I've had it I've started to appreciate its offering I still can't say that I've completely been warmed over by it. That said, I'm not going to give up on trying to expand my palette so I think I might have to go up to the 21 year old since from what I've read that's a little easier and not quite as harsh.
Original notes are quite spicy but once sipped it reveals a much more complex nature.
Almost initially harsh, it mellows out to a whole host of flavours and moods.
Altogether not bad though I won't refill this bottle once it is out.
It's quite good, not too sweet, a bit woody, spicy but not too much. It's quite a good allrounder, but lacks personality in my opinion.
Have to say I'm impressed with this one. It's almost like cognac. Slight smokiness about it, prefer it to the smell of ED12 but can't pick much out, I'm hopeless unless it's really obvious like the Agricole apples. Thinner legs than the sweeter ED and Diplomatico. Nice burn going down, just adding some coke now which I've done with all the others. All 5 amazing with coke, hard to pick out the best although the Agricole is completely different to all, I guess that's sugar cane vs molasses?
I prefer the 12 year "rare blend" but this one is very good as well. Authentic taste of the islands, you can usually request it at the all-inclusive resorts in JA. Not too sweet, Good stuff!!
Little to much oak for my liking, however, it's a very nice rum. Long warm finish and ending with a really nice after taste. If you like oak, you will like this rum.
This is a decent, but not exceptional sipping rum. My main issue with it is that it's a bit harsh. It improves with a few drops of water. Gets extra points for having no added sugar, but in this "category" (and price) loses to the Mount Gay XO which I find to be much smoother and more enjoyable.

The rum offers a lot of smoky spiced oak flavour.
"A nice note of cocoa and a little hint of vanilla. The rum is smooth yet spicy offering a nice kick. The finish is long and complex leaving a lot of flavour behind to savour."

Top rhum, jamaican style that appreciate so much: orange notes, fruity but not so much, the taste remains very long in the mouth. I live in Panama and i am really found of rhum, my favorite digestive drink. This extraordinary Appleton 12 compared to 21 ( the same but even more concentrate) and many others, is the best quality/value I have seen so far.
