Appleton Estate Extra 12-Year rum

Appleton Estate Extra 12-Year

Jamaica | Aged | 43% ABV

Appleton Estate 12-Year Rum is a blend of several rums aged between 12 and 18 years in American oak barrels after being distilled using small-batch copper pot stills.

The rum is produced on the Appleton Estate, which sits in the Nassau Valley in Jamaica. The estate’s origins date back as far as 1655 when the English overthrew the Spanish to rule the island and Frances Dickinson, grandfather of the distillery’s founders, received the land as a reward for his role in the overthrow.

Eminently drinkable with a decent ginger ale/ ginger beer...

Pero me parece basto para un ron que lleva madurando 12 años, por otro lado tiene bastante sabor, principal problema que le encuentro es que no parece que haya madurado lo suficiente, mejor el de 15.

Great value, easy to get in USA, and fairly smooth. Good sipper, and awesome with a cigar.

Sittling here at midnight comparing the 12 Appleton against the Zacapa 23, because enough raters said the 12 was better. In my opinion, the Appleton is way inferior--dry, with a burn in the throat, and no interesting flavors. I had hoped that I would like the Appleton, but c'est la vie. I recently came to rum after decades of single malt whiskey. With single malts I appreciate a dry finish, the Islay way. With rum, I want a bit more sweetness. I don't get that in the Appleton 12.

Nice round-bodied product - can be mixed or consumed neat. Solid contender in the cabinet it gets used in a lot of cocktails - everyone seems to like it.

This is the first rum I’ve tried neat. It’s pretty smooth. I’m getting a taste of banana. Overall, I like it.

This one I would prefer mixed, so I’d go with a cheaper rum. I didn’t prefer this neat or with ice.

It's an unsweetened rum which is nice.. it carries a little spicyness, but boy, I am not a fan of the Funk on the finish. To me the Funk is reminds me most of the swampy flavors you get from fish caught in stagnant waters.

Perfect rum to introduce anybody to dry rums, but at this price range I would take my money somewhere with more complex flavours

Final verdict:
I wont hesitate to drink it again but probably on some festival for free

The select and reserve Appleton is great for mixing (at a friendlier price), and older ones like the 21 are brilliant sippers. Then we have the 12 year caught in the middle. Probably too nice to mix, not quite smooth enough on its own. As a result, it’s hard to say what place this rum has. I should probably rate higher on its own merits, but I struggle to explain where this belongs.
