El Dorado 12-Year rum

El Dorado 12-Year

Guyana | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still

El Dorado 12-Year Rum is composed of a blend of aged rums, all at least 12 years old. The rums are distilled using a combination of stills including coffey stills and a double wooden pot still before being aged in bourbon oak casks.

Demerara Distillers of Guyana produces El Dorado 12-year rum and is the country's last remaining distillery, with origins tracing back to 1670. The name ""El Dorado"" references the legendary city of gold that is said to be in the country's Rupununi region.

Very smooth. Great mixer. Can't get enough. Bottle doesn't last much past midnight ha ha

I love "woody" rums and the El Dorado 12 definitely delivers. I also like the spicy tingle I get on the tongue from this rum. It is high in sugar, but to me it doesn't seem to impact the flavor in a negative way although less sugar would be nice. At my local shop, the 12 year old El Dorado is the only one they carry that I have to actually be there on stock day if I want to pick one up. No problems getting the 15 or 21. Is the 12 year really that that much better, or is it just because of the cost? I don't know, you be the judge.

Fruity sweet nose. Black pepper, vanilla. A bit on the sweet side.
Great value for $

The smell is fruity and alcoholic...last goes away a bit after letting it breathe...but still sensable...

The taste is good with a burn at the end...the taste sticks a while around...

I tried after the 12 year old the older brother, the elderly dorado 15. Did not like it too much...it kinda stinks compared to the 12. I am surprised as well that they differ so much from each other...the taste is Ok from the 15, but the smell and taste is in my opinion way better with the younger 12.

I give the 12 a solid 7...but there are better rums out there...for example the Plantation 20th Anniversary...from the price range closer to the 15. In the same price range of the 12 ist the Ron Barco de Vargas which tastes better than the 12.

I will keep the 12 in my bar stock though.

Did a blind taste test with a friend. Among them were the ED 12,15,21 and the 12 got as high of a rating by us as the 21. If you are going to spend 120 CDN on ED 21 you may as well buy 3 ED 12's because its just as good in my opinion.

This was my first experience with El Dorado. Maybe starting with a 12 year was a mistake. This brand gets a lot of good reviews. To harsh and not very smooth! Maybe I’ll have better luck with another offering from them.

It's a nice sipping rum that will not disappoint you.
It's more sweet than the 15Y.O but i enjoy my rum neat so it isn't bothering me.
It's also a good starter for the beginners

Personally I love this rum and i wouldn't waste it in a cocktail. I only drink it neat and sometimes I pair it also with chocolate.

I recognize mostly tropical fruits and strong hints of honey.
A bit pricey but its definitely worth it!!

Vôňa ovocia, karamelu a vanilky. Príjemná mierne sladkastá chuť. Záver trochu korenistý, ale stále príjemný.
