Guyana | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still
El Dorado 12-Year Rum is composed of a blend of aged rums, all at least 12 years old. The rums are distilled using a combination of stills including coffey stills and a double wooden pot still before being aged in bourbon oak casks.
Demerara Distillers of Guyana produces El Dorado 12-year rum and is the country's last remaining distillery, with origins tracing back to 1670. The name ""El Dorado"" references the legendary city of gold that is said to be in the country's Rupununi region.

The smell is relative neutral and does not have the strong caramel smell of the 3-8 year. A great taste with a nice smooth finish and pleasant long after taste.
Bohatá chuť ovoce, rozinek a dřeva bez lihového ocasu. Jeden z nejlepších v této cenové kategorii.
Einer meiner ersten Premium-Rums und er begeistert nach wie vor bei jedem Schluck.
A tasty rum, however I seem to get a bit of a headache after enjoying it.
Smooth with a bit of a hard aftertaste, good for sipping, better with a splash of coke to bring out more of the flavor
Good color with depth. Sweet, not like diplomatico, but enjoyble.
Let's see what the 12y ElD delivers in comparison to 15 and 21.
I get sweet and fruity notes in the nose. Caramel, raisins, figs, also some banana first, cocoa. Not bad, typical Enmore style.
But there is no honey or papaya that I like in the MDXC mark. This is a different rum to ELD15, from different stills. But also very good, it makes sence to the product range.
The taste is almost the same, caramel, burned sugar and raisins. After that cocoa and oak.
The finish is middle long with raisins and earth notes from the cask.
Not very complex or spicy taste, just pleasant and sweet.
Overall not bad, reminds me a little bit of Diplomatico RE (raisins and caramel are in both rums). Would rate it with 78 points because the taste is not very complex and only 40% sadly.
Smell: caramel, raisins, fig, ripe banana, wood, cocoa
Taste initial/middle: caramel, burned sugar, dried fruit, cocoa, raisins, young oak with vanilla
Finish: some spice, raisins, wet cask and earth, burned sugar again
Sweetness: 3/5
Fruits: 3/5
Spice: 2/5
Mildness: 3.5/5
Complexity: 2.5/5
Value (28€): 4/5
Understandable that people love this. It is easy to sip and has a nice flavour buried under all the sweetness. More of a delicious rum liqueur than a true rum.
Put it this way: When I make an old fashioned with it, I omit the sugar.
This is definitely a dosage bottle but I'd say 15 > 21 > 12. I sip it or occasionally use in a cocktail
Lush tropical fruit and spice nose with hints of honey and dark sugar...
"El Dorado 12-Year rum review by Mike at Ultimate Rum Guide"
It’s sweeter with more delicate fruit flavours coming to the fore.
"It’s very sweet and quite light. It’s very easy drinking. As a sipping rum it as easy to drink."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label
