Great for just sipping. Sweet and strong on the vanilla. Not as strong as some like. Try the XO for a little more punch.
EDIT: sampled again today. Confirmed all my previous thoughts; sweetened additive soup with no rum character and void of any sort of merit. Brand rep shamelessly harped on "15 years old" (wrong). Bragged about how people who "didn't think they liked rum" try it and love it, and I'm standing there biting my tongue because it ISN'T EVEN RUM. I absolutely hate this product; its producer assumes the consumer is an idiot who won't know any better, and apparently they're right because the rest of the tasting group ate it up. UGH I just can't even.
A nightmare product that encapsulates all of the rum category's problems.
-The label fails to clearly communicate that this is a flavoured product, hiding "with natural flavours" in fine print on the big X.
-Avoids labelling as "rum" while also strongly implying that it is rum.
-"Product of Barbados" is a misleading half-truth, as true Bajan rums contain no additives and are bottled at minimum 40% ABV.
-retails for approximately 200% of its actual bottom shelf value.
-no rum flavour; it's all buried under sugar and flavouring additives.
-novelty pirate-y bottle further suggests they've got something to hide.
TL:DR not really rum, more of a pre-mixed cocktail or liqueur. Leave this trash on the shelf.
Edit - The more I think about this rum, the less that I like it. It is just too artificial in flavor and as commented below in my original comments, isn't really a rum, but a rum based liquor.
I really debated how to rate this. As a pure rum, it is not a true rum and would deserve a lower rating. However, at $33 it is affordable and it is fairly drinkable, if you accept it as not a pure rum. It is very sweet, very smooth and low proof. I have seen some describe it as a liqueur and that is probably more accurate. Less sweet than most liqueurs but much sweeter and artificially flavored than most rums. Were I rating it as a liqueur, I would have rated it higher. I found it pleasant enough, but as a rum it does not measure up.
This is the rare occasion where I do not write the review based on the whole bottle consumed, as I would not spend my money on buying the entire bottle. I got several shots on multiple ocasions of this - well, spiced rum, that is the right category. For me, there is too much artificial taste and not much rum in this, it is too sweet for my taste buds, banana, toffee, apricot jam. The price is just nonsense for this concoction, supposedly being of Barbados origin, but being actually everything but true Bajan - with all the sugar and additives which are prohibited on Barbados.
Quite expansive (35 Euro) - to sweat - does not hurt - though would not buy again.
Pour this over your pancakes in case you run out of syrup!
The nose smells very sweet. Llashings of caramel and toffee.
"It barely even tastes like alcohol in any way shape or form. No mid palate and definitely no finish not even the slightest hint of alcohol burn. Maybe a little bit of woodiness as it goes down."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Very smooth rum. Nothing I would like to voluntarily repeat, but when there is no other option and you have it for free......it is a great option. Anyway it is one level better than xo, and it is cheaper then XO.
