This gets a definite not bad from be on the third sip straight up. I’d serve it, maybe sip it, mix it and ship it.
An honest effort and a good deal. However as a top shelfer as in where I’m at says more about the bar than the booze. Tastes kinda like rum. Beginners Xaymacan.
Very good "go-to" rum for an occasional drink. Pricier than something less worthy, but absolutely worth it. Sometimes hard to find, but good to the last drop.
I have been hesitant for quite some time to buy a bottle of this and rate it. Appleton claims that it is a replacement for it's V/X that has been discontinued. Well, not exactly! The average age of the rums being blended here are a few years younger than the old V/X. This was a strictly cost cutting measure from Appleton.
Pouring some into the snifter shows it to be a deep orange color with faint aromas of hogo funk. Somehow, this blend retains some of the hogo funk on the palate. I now have no regrets in buying it.
With six ingredients to blend all of the flavors into a Mai Tai, I would gladly use this one instead of a more expensive Jamaican rum. As for sipping this one neat, spend a few more dollars to get their Reserve Blend. Their 12 Year Rare Blend is almost twice the price of this one, but I now have this Signature Blend ranked only one point below it. The Reserve Blend is the best bang for the buck when it comes to Appleton Estate rums, but it is also much harder to find.
I think I would prefer the blandness if Bacardi white to the terrible chemical aftertaste of this rum. I’ve yet to find a mixer that makes it tolerable. I wouldn’t make my worst enemy sip it. Quite literally the worst rum I’ve ever had the displeasure of tasting. Not sure I can finish the bottle.
The nose is harsh , rather alcoholic and unsubtle. It tastes better - a bit spicey and bourbon-like, perhaps. It's not as good as the 12 year old rare blend, but a good distance, but then it is less than half the price. It tastes young and I would not nominate it in any list of sipping rums.
Nicely balanced well priced rum very enjoyable. Not tried any other Appleton rums to compare, but the best value priced rum I’ve drank to date.
Next stop Appleton aged versions, can’t wait!
Was hoping to find a decent mixer with gingerale or Sprite. Not too bad for the price point.
Sadly, Appleton is not what it used to be...
It’s a bit sweet and nicely flavorful. Not to smoothest but for the price it’s my everyday favorite.
Well balanced and it is a quite subtle (by Jamaican standards) rum.
"The initial sip is quite smooth but the palate soon heats up and feels the black pepper again, this time with some chilli and ginger spice."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

There's just something pleasant about Appletons rums. Nothing harsh or overpowering. Some might say a little boring. I find it a really nice drop mixed or on ice. An everyday mix for an everyday person. Not pricey and still decent enough to look forward too at the end of a hard day.
