Bought this on a recent trip to Cuba. This is a very versatile rum. It is not too expensive to mix and yet it is quite palatable straight.....if you like Cuban-Dominican rums.
It is not overly sweet nor does it have an alchohol aftertaste like many lower tier rums. It has a taste similiar to that of the 12 year old (my favorite), albeit not as pronounced. Living in Canada, l can only hope that the LCBO picks this up....
Nosing
Orange , cloves , tobacco ,
Tasting
Apple, honey , oak , tobacco , pepper
On the nose I got notes of apricot, glace cherries, vanilla and chocolate among other things. Drank neat I think this rum is disgusting. It tastes slightly fruity, but it’s dry with a truly horrendous alcohol burn to it. In that regards it feels like I’m drinking a very cheap blended whiskey, rather than a rum! Unfortunately this rum doesn’t improve a great deal when mixed with Coca-Cola, other than the alcohol burn isn’t so severe as to burn my throat out! Feeling that it was shit or bust, I changed it up and used lemonade as the mixer with a slice of fresh lemon. And you know what, it wasn’t that bad, well it became drinkable at least and there is where I’ll leave it.
Nice aroma and reasonably smooth for the price - good value for money.
Bought this on a recent trip to Cuba. It ain't the best but it's not cheating.
This is a very impressive rum, especially considering i managed to get a bottle for only £21!
Much prefer this with a mixer than neat, but it is smooth
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

I've had Santiago de Cuba 11yo, 12, 20, anejo and extra Seco, and I liked all of them. Now it's aged min 8 years and again it's a pleasure to consume.
Easy aroma with hint of alcohol.
Oily, oaky, fruity and smooth on palate. Yota of alcohol burn. Absolutely on par with it's elder 11, 12yo brothers while being 2½ times more affordable.
Long, addictive aftertaste.
Bravo Santiago de Cuba!
