On the nose I smell typical Jamaican (and St Lucia) traits, overripe funky banana with pineapple juice and varnish, as if distilled in copper pot still, not overpowering, quite pleasant, the rum body is very young and burning, continuation of the banana-pineapple mix, very simple, with added sugar (some 20 gpl is my guess) which basically makes the aftertaste muddled and less prominent. The scent is best, taste and aftertaste quite simple. The added sugar does not do much good here, without sugar and with 25% less price it would be an entertaining mixer, for this price and with the sugar, well, it is kind of superfluous. If you got Chairmans Reserve at hand, add some sugar and here you go - you got something close to, but even better than this. It is best when mixed with coke, but so is J Wray Gold for 2./3 of the price.
Plantation's Isle of Fiji rum is EXTREMELY similar to their Xaymaca bottling. However, this rum has notes of spice that its sister rum doesn't accentuate as much. I find that, in cocktails, I prefer this in sours, due to the spice's ability to cut through, versus Xaymaca's sweetness.
this bottle makes me want to go to fiji lol
nice accesible taste, great bottle for people just getting started with rumzzzzzzz
Keeping in mind the price point here, for what you get this is great. Possible to drink straight and that’s says quite a bit for the cost. Pick up a bottle, keep it in your bar, throw it in your Mai Tai. Decent intro rum as well.
Fresh, young, fruity, strand, rae smell. Lack of deeper, wooden flavours.
40% ABV Fiji rum, aged for 3 years tropically in Fiji in bourbon barrels and then 1 year continentally in France in cognac barrels. I've always really liked its colourful label.
Bottle: The classic but more bulbous Plantation
Colour: Gold
Nose: Very pleasant, reminiscent of Jamaican rums. Smells of overripe fruit (mainly banana), grilled pineapple, a little estery, dark chocolate and nutmeg.
Mouth: Sweetish with a slight burn on the tongue. Unfortunately, it's a bit more watery and less intense. There is vanilla, chocolate, tropical fruits (banana, pineapple), honey and wood.
Finish: Rather shorter.
Conclusion: This is such a lighter and sweeter type of rum where the aroma is more interesting than the taste. It's not bad, but it didn't impress me in any fundamental way.
Rating: 6.5/10
Rhum abordable, fruité avec une pointe d'esthe à un prix intéressant.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label
