Tasted on 2/14/2024 with Gayle Seale at the FourSquare Distillery. If considering the price point, easily could be rated a 9.
Nose: Vanilla, Caramel and Tropical Fruits
Taste:Palate: Much of the same with some Raisin notes
Finish: More spice and a bit of chocolate on a well balance finished.
Brought this back to the United States with me from Barbados a year and a half ago and have been sipping it neat for the most part since (although it did work its way into a few rum old fashioneds). Finally poured the last drop and realized I never reviewed it.
This is a great choice for a sipper if you can get your hands on a bottle - its quite good for a 14 year old rum. Good mouthfeel, rich flavor.
The only thing holding it back from being rated high is Foursquare's other offerings: its just a notch below the ECS series bottlings that I've sampled.
Super smooth rum. My favorite from the Foursquare Distillery so far...
It's a pretty good rum. For the price it is better than El Dorado 15 which I like but don't think it is outstanding. It doesn't have that complete Foursquare vibe, close in flavor but just a hint. I'd rather spend another 30 or more and get a real Foursquare if available. It's a good holdover though when you can't get the good stuff, which is often where I am located. Heck, even this 14 goes out of stock quick. Grab it if you can get it.
9: The nose is soft and velvety. As in a milk chocolate, one guesses a heavy and deep texture, a velvet with comfortable folds. The fruits take the lead, with orange peel in the lead, with exotic fruits in syrup caught in its patina. With aeration, the soft, full wood offers us notes of tobacco, mellow and toasted coconut. Its white fibre is a fleshy, caramelised juice. The toasted oak brings a little frame and character with time, this is a complete rum that will be hard to resist. Some glue on the nose😉.
10: On the palate, the rum is balanced and flavoursome. The woody concentration abounds with aromas of cocoa, toasted coconut, dark vanilla and sweet oak. The spices are taut, flavourful, like a variety of rich, exotic peppers.
9: The finish gives way to velvety fruit, candied orange peel and dark chocolate.
Sipping it, brightens the day and night wide.
Especially for the price, around $52ish USD at the moment at my local TWM. As a Bajan, it blows Plantation XO out of the water for a few bucks less (but in my book that's a low bar as I am one of the few on the planet that is not impressed with that rum, so take it as you will...).
A complex nose without being a mess, that translates into the palate - light vanilla, a fair amount of wood and lots of spice, some caramel, a bit of bright fruit and pepper. Nicely layered. The ABV 48% is right on the money - I feel it really lets flavors pop but without being too hot - it's warm, but not at all unpleasant, it does go down smoothly. Dry, but not like the desert. Well balanced overall. Dances on your tongue.
I definitely recommend this one! Well done Doorly's!
Woody oak notes dominate initially giving to some fruit.
"Lots of ginger and spicy oak on the initial entry. There is a slightly bDoorly's Fine Old Barbados Rum Aged 14 Years rum review by the fat rum pirateitter note in the oak notes. A slight astringency. Finish wise we are left with a spicy and slightly heated end to the rum."

We found this nice aged rum at Total Wine in FL. Enjoyed it with a mixer, but it was even better than its little brother!
