It beats all the "Anejos" on the market to death... I like this one with coke but it can be sipped neat, on the rocks, or in a mixed drink. The aged flavors push right through and the smell is hypnotizing.
If this rum is a step up from the regular blend Appleton, then it should taste like it. I was not impressed with the lack of punch and flavour from a rum that is aged 8 years. In fact, i stopped after just one. There are far better 5-8 year old rums at the same cost. Initial taste is flat with a hint of vanilla, ends with a sharp, sour note. If you have to add a lime, have a Corona.
Not a great sipping rum, but Appleton Estates 8 year old is one of the best readily available mixing rums at it's price point. Mixed with cola or into a Cuba Libre this is a great rum.
Bon goût de sucre chaud, à boire sec mais doit être excellent en Cuba libre.
I thought this was a very good rum for the price. I like the 12 and this was not far off it. Nice floral flavours with a bit of a kick. Its fine neat but also an excellent mixer.
A very nice rum and one that seems to be relatively available on most top shelves. If I recall correctly it was smoother than their normal reserve, but not noticeably smoother to not just opt for reserve. It makes for a very smooth rum and coke.
Bonne odeur sucrée, plutôt fort en bouche sur glace mais appréciable quand même. (env.25e)
I thought it would be a little better than what it was for the cost. It's a step up from the VX, making it drinkable, but having tried the 12 before this, it's a big step down. It's now discontinued, but I'm not sad about that as I wouldn't buy it again when others in that prices range far exceed it, or for a few bucks more you could just go for the 12.
Surprisingly spicy on the tongue. Strong notes of black pepper and oaked heat.
"Has a lovely smooth entry which quickly heats up. The initial notes of pineapple and dark almost to ripe banana give way to spicy heat. The flavours linger and coat the taste buds with hot spice."
