WITHOUT ICE:
NOSE
Salty sea breeze with some leather. Interesting for this color of rum. But also very fruity, some candied fruit and orange peel at the beginning, but as the glass stays a little bit on the air I find near leather and orange also some vanilla and banana notes.
PALATE
Mm mm… sweet caramel molasses in combination with light woods aromas and candied fruit. Perfect!
Plantation Grande Réserve belongs to the “entry” rums but still it offers combinations of two worlds. Tropical notes from Barbados like pineapple in combination with “French” wood and leather notes from Cognac region making it a very sipping rum that surprises our palate.
FINISH
Long after the glass is empty you can feel the presence of it. Light and sweet fruity notes of orange and coconut. For this price range a quite big surprise.
Now, as we always do, we will try our flight on the lower temperatures. How sweet aromas from Plantation interacts with ice.
WITH ICE
NOSE
On the nose there is a lack of aroma when we compare it with the neat version, but still it offers some fresh fruit notes and somewhere there is smokiness in the glass.
PALATE
Unlike the lack of aromas on the nose, the flavors on the palate are persistent, and they reveal some hidden flavors like pepper at the end. Quite unexpected and it still keeps his “sipping“ adjective, even the dilution after some time dilutes also the flavors, so maybe after 10 minutes on ice it loses most of its aromas and notes.
FINISH
Same like in the neat version. Sweet, fruity and coconut, but with some spicy ending. Something between black pepper and chilly.
My favorite mark of rum good quality for good price.,.......................................................................
I discover the rum's world with this one!
I still take it time to time, even if the 5years Barbados replace it.
The price is very good for this to start, the taste is very nice.
I use it more for cocktail than sipping, but it is very good!

a rather sweet rum, tropical fruits especially pineapple, but also grapes, grass, straw, vanilla, caramel. the aromas are open, bright, jovial as is the color.
the alcohol is very well integrated as with most Plantation rums
If I was going to pick a good plantation it wouldnt be this one. It smells a bit like acetone and is not as smooth as Im used to. A bit of an apple cider lingering flavour. Theres better plantation blends such as anything from the Guatemala region.
Pale gold, fruity, hint of spice, burnt caramel, toffee. It's a decent easy drinking rum, but nothing to make it stand out
Je to taký priemer.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

After the 3 Stars Artisanal White Rum from Plantation i had some high expectations from the Barbados Grand Reserve, which is also priced in a higher tier. as my headline hints, this is exactly what i feel...
Nose: Gentle tropical sweetness subdued as if not to offend the crowd, however in a fancy way perfumers know how, delicate hints of Bananas, Vanilla and... Cheese cake (or is it the rum extract added to the cake?) but not a single impression is strong enough to last enough time to postpone the first sip.
in a way it feel like an encounter with a busy French noble who had no time to prepare as should for our date. on the other hand it's could be an encounter with a french prostitute in a hurry in a Parisian forest, she smells and looks nice, but is in a hurry for her next customer...
Tongue: Sweet Honeybee nectar. Sweet Oleander Syrup smashed from the flower guts. Elusive, cheating Sweetness which fades quickly like Monosodium glutamate, this French noble is sneaky just like the Parisian prostitute, spend too much time with them and you might be stripped of your consciousness and money. it is surely a high price to pay for this brief Soma experience. on the other hand, how many French nobles the average rum drinker knows? (I am a documented Polish Noble, and even i don't know too many of them).
Finish: Brief... Too Brief... Lingering but brief. like a unsuccessful orgasm. wish it had lasted, but i would do it again, and again.
I rank it 80 out of 100 hence a 8/10
but with a warning. if Plantation "3 Stars" is Louis XIV in beggars clothes, this Frenchman is going to swindle you to believe he is a beautiful hooker.
just beware, he is not!
