Pas mauvais mais pas super non plus.
Abordable mais quand on a goûté au 12 ans celui ci devient bien ternes
As much as I love Eldorado the 5 year is trash...ok for mixing and that's all
edit: After a couple of months of not touching this bottle and letting it breath , I think this rum has improved, the taste is a bit more complex and there is less alcohol burn. Raising my score from 5 to 6!
At first I thought, I received a fake bottle, then I red the top comments and my experience is one to one.
Nose is weak, even compared to white/light rums, some sweetness and alcohol burn.
Taste is also weak, some sweetness, some very very light wood maybe, with a relatively long after taste, mostly the same taste(sweetness and wood) but also alcohol.
I was hoping for a lot more, this is the first disappointing rum for me as I didn't find anything new or interesting in the nose or taste . Still much better than cheep flavored rums.
Drinkable on its own but not great. Good choice for cocktails due to relatively smooth finish and simple flavors (yet more complex than a blanco) - my go-to, along with thr 8-year, for classic daiquiris, etc, due to price point.
Basically a lightly aged gold rum, without any big flaws, but it lacks most of the character that makes the older EDs so notable. It definitely works well as a mixer, but kind of doesn't really hold any notable place on the bar. ED3 is a great white, and if you move older in the range you get the complexity. The 5-year is just kinda... there. Probably worth spending the extra for the 8 or 12 year, even if you only plan on using them for mixing.
Bought this for mixing, as several recipes called for using a Demerara rum in the mix. Very middle of the road for me. Drinkable, but there are cheaper rums that I prefer to this. Maybe the older versions are the way to go for El Dorado, but the 5 year probably won't be back on my shelf.
Go to everyday sort of rum. With a bit of mix it’s a great and affordable rum.
It has a sweet almost fruity taste. .
"It’s tasty and fruity. There’s an overall taste a bit like the smell of floral gums."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Even though I tried (and hated) the 8-year, I thought I was misremembering how strongly I disliked that bottle. After driving all over town looking for a Guyana rum, I finally settled and just got this. Instant regret.
