Appleton Estate 12-Year Rum is a blend of several rums aged between 12 and 18 years in American oak barrels after being distilled using small-batch copper pot stills.
The rum is produced on the Appleton Estate, which sits in the Nassau Valley in Jamaica. The estate’s origins date back as far as 1655 when the English overthrew the Spanish to rule the island and Frances Dickinson, grandfather of the distillery’s founders, received the land as a reward for his role in the overthrow.

Got a bottle of this for a birthday present and was pleased to have received it. A bit of a bite at first but has a very nice finish. Not real sweet but hits all the targets though not in the middle on the paper.
Gillar denna romen skarpt. Den är lite dyr på SB men går att få billigt i Tyskland och då är den helt klart värd pengarna
I honeymooned in Jamaica and this was the bottle they were pushing on tourists, even offering shots straight up in the street. Someone below commented on the flavor notes and I believe they are spot on. Brown sugar, charred oak, and a hot finish. For the price, I'd pick up a bottle of Zaya or Zacapa instead.
I usually go for sweet rums but this one was devoid of sweetness and almost resembled a whisky. Fruits with lots of oak and tinge of vanilla mixed in with alcohol astringency. Though personal preferences aside this was a good rum.
I really like the way of naming conventions by Appleton! Most of the producers are using just the highest age of their rums, or solera method with highest age, but not Appleton! 12yo is the youngest one ranging from 12-18yo.
Most rum producers also add sugar into their rums to make it more fancy, more stable across batches...not Appleton!
Joy Spence knows the roots of the rums...
I really liked this one as first of Appleton's rums and I am sure I will try/buy also the 21yo (even-though its price tag is quite high).
This one would suite also to whiskey lovers (similar as Pusser's 15yo).
Its price tag is very very interesting! I will get this bottle for sure!
Nose: Full bodied, raising
Taste: its body goes directly into its tail, no such big difference between those two taste-parts. Not sweet, It has the harshness of typical rums. Smoked, oak
Tail: long lasting, the good "alcohol punch"
Bottle: Upper average, the etiquette is nicely made and high-quality (not as Ron Quorhum and other Oliver's..), the only part I dislike is the screw cap.
Personally i think there are better rums for the price.. but its not bad..smooth..but the very strong burnt wood taste over powers the fruit flavor
This is probably the first Rum I ever tasted (OK, maybe there was a white Bacardi before this) Appleton 12 is a nice and easy basic rum for almost every occasion.
Trošku ostřejší chuť ,ale velmi dobrý a kvalitní rum

The rum offers a lot of smoky spiced oak flavour.
"A nice note of cocoa and a little hint of vanilla. The rum is smooth yet spicy offering a nice kick. The finish is long and complex leaving a lot of flavour behind to savour."

As previous reviewers have stated, this rum starts a little harsh and reminiscent of a whiskey. With that said, it has a nice finish with a multitude of flavors coming through. I like this rum both for sipping and for mixing. I also find that the more I drink this, the bigger fan I become of it!
