Guyana | Aged | 40% ABV | Pot and Column Still
El Dorado 12-Year Rum is composed of a blend of aged rums, all at least 12 years old. The rums are distilled using a combination of stills including coffey stills and a double wooden pot still before being aged in bourbon oak casks.
Demerara Distillers of Guyana produces El Dorado 12-year rum and is the country's last remaining distillery, with origins tracing back to 1670. The name ""El Dorado"" references the legendary city of gold that is said to be in the country's Rupununi region.

The gold standard of sipping rums that I use to compare all others.
Good rum, I recommend everyone to have it in their home bar.
At the beginning the taste is very soft and you can feel the honey, it gradually changes to the taste of fruit, overall it is a good rum, sometimes dry but the fruit balances it out, for this price it is an excellent choice
Amazing nose, quite sweet and smooth taste. Warms me up like a nice summer breeze.
On the advice of another post, I began my courtship with rum tentatively and warily - with Diplomatico Reserva Exclusive - but found a new best friend and possibly weekend lover. Completely content with that smoky green bottle of joy, and decided to test the waters for something new, and chose El Dorado 12-year. I began drinking rum 3 weeks ago, so I won't try and impress you with hints of this and aftertastes of that (not that I could anyways), but it is a smooth drink, very or too easy to drink, a slight pleasant burn on the 1st sip, and I feel great the next morning. My complaint with it is the taste isn't to my liking. The Diplomatico is sweeter, and if I was to pick a rum to take with me to Mars, it would be the Diplomatico...for now. On to rum #3...
Nice and rich flavour, perfectly suited for a rum old fashioned.
I like these bottles, makes me feel like a pirate.
Nice smell, sloo iight taste and smooth going down.
Lush tropical fruit and spice nose with hints of honey and dark sugar...
"El Dorado 12-Year rum review by Mike at Ultimate Rum Guide"
It’s sweeter with more delicate fruit flavours coming to the fore.
"It’s very sweet and quite light. It’s very easy drinking. As a sipping rum it as easy to drink."

This is a very good entry level sipper. It's sweetness, spice and smoothness is well balanced, and the strong oak and whisky-bourbon taste has grown on me in subsequent tastings. In comparison to the other aged El Dorado rums, I think the 12 year old has a better taste than the 15 year, but the 21 is their best so far for me. Keep in mind that the 21 Year old version is sweeter and you can buy 3 bottles of the 12 year old for the price of one bottle of the 21 year old, which makes the 12 Year Old a great value.
