This might not be the highest quality rum, but it is very pleasant to drink. Lot of fruit flavours with little alcohol taste.
However, I also bought Plantation 20th Anniversary XO, which was not much more expensive, and it tastes even better. I think Plantation would be my choice if I had to choose just one, but it is probably more about personal preference.
We found this rum while on a trip to visit family in Texas. We saw the bottle and decided to give it a try. It has a nice banana, vanilla, almond flavor to it and is smooth. An in-law who hardly drinks loved this rum and we have since gotten some of our local stores to carry it and it sells out. We even have given a bottle to a friend as a yule gift and it is one of his favorites now. This to me, is one of th ebest rums, and for the price, it is top notch
Based on a 16the century recipe? Seriously? I have never seen so much hype for a rum and much to it's credit, RumRatings is the only site out there with a realistic rating for this stuff. Normally, I'm pretty relaxed about the advertising hype, but this stuff represents rum about as much as banana liqueur does.
One of the smoothest rums I've had, with vanilla and banana flavors.
I agree with many others. Very sweet, but that is part of the newer rum popularity isn't it? Sugar and 35pc at a high price don't combined too well for me either. Like lots of the sweet stuff it's easy to drink neat or mixed but the biggest draw it the cool bottle. Smooth n easy. Not exactly pirate characteristics but very cool looking anywat
As the ratings show there is a lot of differing opinion on this rum. It claims it is based on 16th century local recipes. Neat it has no burn with toasted vanilla maple notes. Most say banana but I also get a hint of cinnamon. If it fits your flavor profile for a sweet spiced rum it’s going to be a favorite. Not my cup of rum but better than any spiced rum I have tasted so far, thus my 6. I could see this in a craft cocktail. The bottle is interesting and displays well if you like a pirate theme. Basically it feels and taste like a liquere so I understand the low rating from some. But hey, I’m liking my rum tastings because their is a wide range of flavors so Cheers.
Lots of good stuff here; vanilla and banana notes. Just too syrupy to be excellent.
I find that it’s really sweet with loads of vanilla, it’s smooth but to be enjoyed with coke or in a cocktail
The nose smells very sweet. Llashings of caramel and toffee.
"It barely even tastes like alcohol in any way shape or form. No mid palate and definitely no finish not even the slightest hint of alcohol burn. Maybe a little bit of woodiness as it goes down."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Solid and enjoyable, but not great. Probably not worth the price charged by my local place.
