Nice sweet taste for a Cuba Libre. A very affordable option for a quality brand.
Alkohol: 40 %
Původ: Jamajka
Aroma: Medově nasládlá, příjemná, i když trochu jednodušší vůně. Mléčná a peprmintová čokoláda, špetka koření. (83 b)
Chuť: V chuti řídký, dřevitá hořkost, tohle se mi ani trochu nelíbí. Něco koření se dá najít v dochuti, ale to už výsledný dojem nezachrání. (60 b)
Body: 71
Shrnutí: Ochutnán s kamarádem na naší zářijové akci. Vůně fajn, chuťově ale velká bída.
I recently got into rum, and unfortunately all the other six rums I tried during the first period had significant amounts of added sugar (between 20 and 50 g/L). This was the only exception, at <3 g/L. That makes this one very different from the others. More "savory" almost, more deep and much more characteristic, and infinitely less sweet. I do like it though, and find the caramel nose and taste interesting, and I am absolutely looking forward to trying a more aged one, 8 or 12 year for instance.
This is a good rum for its price point in my opinion. It doesn't try to be fancy, it just tastes like rum.
Meh. For all the hype around Jamaican funk, I was not very impressed with this bottle. I considered giving it a 6, but honestly it is a good mixer, so I settled on 7. I think I just wanted more character given that it's a Jamaican rum. If you don't mind spending a little more on your mixing rum for cocktails, this is honestly a great starting point. It goes well in just about everything, just don't expect it to blow you away.
Edit: Sorry Appleton Signature, but I've tried many a Jamaican bottle since, and you just don't cut it. My original assessment of a 6 stands. There are better Jamaican rums to be had around $20 or just a couple of bucks more without having to reach for an overproof. Coruba, Doctor Bird, Worthy Park, and even Myers just bring the funk better. Having said that, don't discount the aged Appletons. Appleton 12 is amazing!
This is the rum that changed my view on rums and got me into exploring more. Mix it, sip it, admire it. I just miss the old bottle design...
Look, if u want a nice rum to mix and enjoy a session on this may be for you.
It's the cheapest in the appletons range we have available here.
I personally found it average, a mixer is a must. I wouldn't buy it again, for the same price you can get a better rum from a lesser known brand.
I would mark this slightly better than captain Morgan's/kraken etc. Not great but not the worst in the world
Well balanced and it is a quite subtle (by Jamaican standards) rum.
"The initial sip is quite smooth but the palate soon heats up and feels the black pepper again, this time with some chilli and ginger spice."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label
