Such a great rum. As with most of the longer aged Appleton, this carries little of the funk that is associated with Jamaican rum. Still an amazing rum.
While I don’t enjoy this as much as some other rums, it is one of my favorite Jamaican rums. The initial scents I got more banana, vanilla, and some sweetness. The first sip was more oak than anything.
As I was doing dishes while sipping this, it was left on the counter for about 15 minutes before I came back to it. At that point I had some odd scents, akin to soft, warm bread and apples. The taste at that point reminded me of overripe bananas or fried bananas.
And while the thought of it may give some people a slight heart attack, I bet it would make an excellent El Presidente.
The bite and burn are good for the ABV and not overpowering. While there's not much on the initial taste, it develops into a profile with woody notes and toasted brown sugar with some light hints of funkiness in the aftertaste.
My primary issue is that it isn't memorable enough for the price. You don't get enough of the funkiness, enough of the ABV, or enough of the woody complexion to justify the price. There's not much that elevates it over some of the cheaper AE bottles mixed with some overproof rum.
Un excellent rhum, goût de vanille, orange et amande. On ne peut pas se tromper avec cette bouteille, je vais goûter au 12 ans prochainement.
More dry than sweet ; very stable and medium aftertaste ; elegant and complex
Ripe banana very present in nose ; storm of dried fruits ; molasses deep ; honey and tobacco are important key notes
But also apricots, tangerines, vanilla, chocolate and oak wood
I mean, when I've already given the Appleton 12 a rating of 9, where do you really go from there? The answer is nowhere. This is also excellent. I'll be sticking with the Appleton 12 though, nothing really here to push it to new heights. Excellent rum, excellent funk, not overpowering.
compared to the 12 a little rounder, more oak and less funk, slightly better, if it costs a little more than the 12 try it
Wood and vanilla aroma, smooth taste with a hint of black pepper
This is exceptionally smooth and citrus with a nice spice.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Beautiful rum. Complex flavour profile of brown sugar and spice with a warming solid finish
