United States | Light | 40% ABV

Bacardi Superior Rum is the original Bacardi rum, dating back to 1862 when Don Facundo Bacardi Massó purchased his first rum distillery in Cuba. 150 years later, Bacardi Superior is now manufactured in Puerto Rico, but the recipe remains largely the same.

A unique strain of yeast discovered in the Cuban sugarcane fields is used to produce Bacardi Superior rum. The rum is filtered through charcoal, a process pioneered by Bacardi, before and after it is aged in oak barrels for at least one year.

Yet again, this is another Rum out there that pretty much everyone has tried and pretty much every bar across the planet will likely have.

To be fair to Bacardi, its reasonably priced and its unpretentious, even if the kinds of people who drink it often are and know sweet F all about what constitutes good rum or even a good cocktail.

Which leads me to my main point. This is a cocktail rum. I think even Bacardi understand this about their rum because its cheap and they go to extensive lengths to pitch it as a mixing rum. To any newbie rum drinkers, going to the bar and ordering this on the rocks or by itself will only make you look stupid and leave you with a rum you will have no chance but to shot and later feel sick about.

But considering what it is, a cheap and cheerful which has partied uncountable millions of parties, good times and drinks between mates and crew.

4/10 in terms quality (was tempted to push it to 3)
9/10 in terms of what the masses want (a cheap rum that won't blind them and they can mix into their drink before they hit the dance floor)

This is the consummate generic rum for non-tiki cocktails. It isn't absolutely terrible, but it is undrinkable on its own. I have a bottle for Mojitos.

Bottom shelf mixer pretty much everyone has had. Good enough for thin wallets

It really does not have a whole lot of aromas to it so apply generously in your cocktails.

My Bacardi torture tour continues and this must be the worst. How can it possibly get worse? This is bat piss! Superior to what? Rat poison? I’ll take the latter. Here is what I want to know; how does any one in Bacardi testing or quality control (assuming they even have such a thing), pour this poison into a glass, drink it and say “ right!, this is good???? Bottle and sell it??? Even cyber monkey tasters would start to spark, smoke roll over and explode. Epically nasty.

Basic mixer. The smell is general alcohol, similar to vodka. It does not have any distinctive taste, I feel just some sweetness and young, vodka-like alcohol. For the money I prefer HC3 better as it has more character.

Innoffensive, stuff of teenage years hence why not scoring it super low

The nose is better than I expected. There is an overall, clean tropical fruit vibe that is not bad. On the palate, however, it falters. It has.a tad of upfront sweetness, a non-descript mid-palate, and then something kind of rough and artificial tasting appears on the finish. This is invariably going to be used as a mixer or in cocktails, and maybe there it might do ok. Evaluated as a sipper, it’s pretty one dimensional.

It’s ok. One for the masses. Much better ones out there

This rum is bottom of the line but better than spiced bacardi. Not much for a flavor profile when drinking straight. Should only be used as a cheap and fast mixer.
