New XO Guatemala Rum from Kirkland (Costco)?

Some Costco stores are starting to carry a Guatemala XO Aged Rum for about $25.

Considering that for about a year now they've been carrying Ron Zacapa rum, which is Guatemalan, the bourbon cask aging, and the bottle's style and cork; RZ might be the origin.

If that's true, is there any real similarity between a $25 Costco rum and a $120 Ron Zacapa rum?

At the moment there is no listing for that item here on RumRatings and I'd hate to buy it blind; even if it is cheap.

Feels like a "rate some rum" bat signal just went up.  Can't leave this plea for help unheeded, "Alexa, where's the nearest Costco?"

I have two stores about equal distance from me.  One has this but the other doesn't.  It helps to call first.

I wasn't a big fan of the 15 year Panama rum they had recently and a few weeks back I actually threw away my first bottle of Wray and Nephew because I found it so awful and useless since it drowned out all other flavors in a cocktail.

I've just had bad luck trying new rums lately.

Oooh.  Was poking around on Total Wine and More and discovered El Pasador de Oro XO.  https://rumratings.com/rum/3966-el-pasador-de-oro-xo

Definitely seems to be it.  So French, but $45-50 rum for $25 is still a good deal.

@SlandT To increase your odds of discovering rums you like go to the rums you think are 10s and see who also rated them 10s...then check out their cabinet by clicking on their name and see what other 10s they have you haven't tried.

@SlandT - Yeah, Jamaican overproofs are interesting. If you don't like the W&N, don't even consider Rumfire! They do work well in certain cocktails (Almost Famous ain't half bad), or in small doses to add some extra dimension. Definitly an acquired taste though I will say I am very glad I acquired it!

I'm wondering if this is from Botran? I've enjoyed their 15yr old at the right price of $43 at the Panama city duty free and I had a friend snatch a bottle of their sherry cask and that was absolutely delicious. Do we know the distillery this comes from? If it's Botran I'm getting in my car right now! Patiently awaiting!

This disappeared for a while and just came back in stock recently.

For those in Florida, I can tell you it's available at their stores in Pompano Beach and Daytona Beach according to a Costco staff member.

My cabinet is bulging after my other rums shopping this month, but I really do want to try this.  What to do, what to do.

damn no one's rated it yet, still wondering if it's good, if it's a white-labeled pasador de oro it'll be decent for the price

I drank through two bottles. I've never had El Pasador de Oro XO or anything from Guatemala(that I know of) but it had a touch of sweetness and fairly light bodied. I was the one who submitted the Kirkland 15 year Panama, and was too lazy to submit this one to RumRatings but I'd give it a solid 7. For $25.99(the price for the bottle here in Illinois) I'd definitely say it drinks at or above it's price-point, but I did enjoy the Panama Kirkland more. It just had more body, oak and brown sugar, with the sweetness to round it all out. If you can find it and you're curious, get the bottle(you've probably spend more on a risk chance bottle before) because they did not bottle much of it and when you go back it will be gone. Pro-tip, Costco members will already know that you can not look up alcohol on their app, however if you have instacart, you can shop Costco alcohol. Unfortunately, on instacart you can not know for sure what store you're seeing results for, but just assume it's the closest store by mileage to where you live. I kept searching "rum" on instacart while looking on the Costco page(in the instacart app) and eventually I saw the Guatemala rum available. I immediately drove to the store and grabbed a bottle. The next day I went back and grabbed a second and out of the 2 cases initially available(24 bottles) there were 5 left the next day I went in.

Just confuse instacart:

The link in the first thread for Costco SameDay is instacart for this rum. https://sameday.costco.com/store/costco-spirits/products/36993587

Go to Costco.com's find a location: https://www.costco.com/warehouse-locations

Find some stores near you, then go to the sameday.costco.com, and enter the Costco Warehouse locations as the delivery address for your purchase.  That way you can be sure you are seeing what is in stock at that store.

Or, if you go to a Costco and staff can check stock on a computer for warehouses in the area.

Edit: Same for the 15-year Panama - https://sameday.costco.com/store/costco-spirits/products/34398266

Although, oddly it says it's a 1.75L.  Pretty sure I got a 750ml.

OOoh.  My local just got these in.  Have to get it tomorrow if they're still there.

Edit: And they're gone.  I wonder if that was a mistake or they just didn't notice they sold out by end of day.

Got to try this. Last year the had Barcelo 30. I think it was 30 year anniversary not 30 years but was incredible in the 80-$90 range but sadly it appears gone forever. Was very similar to the E. Leon Jimenez also top shelf produced by Barcelo. Last trip Zacapa XO was done but -$8 for 2 bottles of Diplimatico Reserve so around $31 bottle for a good bar staple but a bit sweet. Hopefully next trip has the Kirkland. I'm 50/50 on the El Passador, one bottle tasted very much like cork maybe just a bad bottle. Had a hard time drinking it which is rare for me.
