I'm a fan of authentic British Royal Navy rum, and man, this really exhibits the Demerara contribution to that classic flavor. Port Mourant is also the obvious source of that deep dark burnt molasses aspect to many of the El Dorado blends. For me, a lot of alcohol on the nose, but also the burnt caramel. Spicy hot on the tongue. Some fruit in the mids. Smouldering dark finish with anise.
This is how I think El Dorado rums should be, no sugar added! and a good punch!
I really wish El Dorado would release more ones like this and stay away from the sugar additives. They seem to be on the right track though and this one was excellent.

Rum zrál 15 let v sudech po bourbonu.
Aroma: Opálené dřevo, tabák, popel, koření (pepř, hřebíček) a těžké ovocné tóny meruněk a jablek. Krásná a komplexní vůně.
Chuť: Nasládlá, ovocně-kořenitá (pepř), kouřová. Plná a hutná.
Dozvuk: Lékořice, špetka pepře, lehká travnatost a poté spousta sušeného ovoce (rozinky, švestky). Vše je takové očouzené či "připálené". Velmi dlouhý.
Sladkost: 0/3
Ochutnán vzorek / Celá lahev
S guyanskými rumy pořád bojuji, ale tento mi neskutečně sedl. Lehce kouřový, ovocný a kořeněný v dokonalém poměru. Hořkost v dozvuku minimální. Navzdory vysoké ceně jsem si lahev pořídil a během následného popíjení si u mě tu cenu obhájila. Zatím nejlepší guyanský rum, co jsem pil.
Didn’t get the port sweetness. Got a lot of olive juice on the tongue. Not a fan!
There is also a more subtle note of leather and oak.
"The aniseed is prominent and again its mixed with a kind of salty/briny note."
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

The first thing that comes to my mind when nosing this rum, is an old wooden shipdeck and big ropes. I pick up pretty heavy notes of wood and tar, but also a lot of spices like aniseed, black pepper, cloves and nutmeg. More discretely, notes of orange marmelade and caramel also peeks out. As it lands on my tounge, the wooden notes explode, but not in a particular dry way. The taste quickly transition into the spicy aniseed, and tar notes followed by a buttery, oily and nutty caramel, which work damn well, countering the initial spicy explosion. Cut the big pricetag in half and this would be a 10.
