Great rum, complex. But I still prefer the ED 21.
Très bon et complexe mais je préfère le ED 21.
I got a bottle after having a great experience with a different single batch rum. Maybe it was because I had expectations that I found this to be a little underwhelming (especially for the price). Almost no nose and a medium amount of burn. The flavours I tasted were a light caramel and apple.
I find this rum flavorful and fruity, i like it a lot.
Enjoyed this greatly, no residual sugar and astringint sweetness that is in the 12 or 15 yr...a great portion of the higher end eldo blends,,, great on its own
I wanted to love this single barrel, but I only like it very much. I found this one better than the PM, and have not had a chance to try the ICBU . . . yet.
The first bottle I tried, I thought this was my favourite rum. The only thing stopping me from giving it a 9 or 10 was that it was a little too simplistic; not very complex but very, very smooth.
To my disappointment the second bottle I opened was a little rougher with a different taste profile.
I still think it is better then the ICBU and way better then the PM.
Caramel flavour with a hint of apple. I find it to have a strong after burn. this rum somewhat cognacy ( if there is such a word ), i prefer sweeter rums this one doesn't fall in that category. I Much prefer the El Dor. 21 yr.
Un rhum unique pas sa conception artisanale unique. Une pièce de collection...mais aussi un excellant produit qui se positionne dans le haute gamme.
I love El Dorado but these single barrels are interesting as an insight into how the more drinkable blends are made but wouldn't drink them regularly.
Alcohol on the nose. Initially tastes of youngish wood.
Not sweet at all.
Fades into a smooth but peppery aftertaste.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

Regrettably, I can't get this locally (San Francisco/Oakland). Last time I picked up bottles in the duty free shop at Piarco and they didn't last long, let me tell you. You can sometimes snag a shot at Smugglers Cove on Gough Street in SF, but don't even try to ask them where they get their bottles. So smooth, perfect balance of sweet/dry/smoke, cleanest finish of any rum I've tried so far. This stuff comes from one of the oldest wooden stills that is still producing rum in the Caribbean so it's got cache as well as great flavor. A treasured, rare bottle to share with only your very best friends
