The Pusser's Deptford Dockyard Reserve is a Navy Rum Blend, which celebrates the 52nd Black Tot Day. The rum comes from Guyana, Trinidad, Jamaica and Barbados and was stored in oak barrels. The rum was bottled with 54,5% alcohol.
The rum has a heavy and dark nose. A lot of mocha, dark chocolate, roasted aromas and nuts are surrounded by dried fruit. Add some burnt sugar and baking spices. On the palate, the rum remains heavy and creamy. The alcohol is well integrated but present. I get roasted cocoa beans, mocha, caramel and roasted nuts. In addition leather and dried fruits. The rum becomes woodier on the finish. There are clear bitter notes and the leather is more present. The roasted aromas remain and yet the rum suddenly collapses and seems fleeting and does not linger long.
This Pusser's has a very clear profile, but I don't quite like it. The coffee and mocha notes are too present for that. If you like it dark and dry and are looking for mocha notes, this is the place for you. My 5cl sample is enough for me.
Der Pusser's Deptford Dockyard Reserve ist ein Navy Rum Blend, welcher zum 52. Black Tot Day.
I feel a slivovitz in aroma as well as in a taste. Sweetness-quite low. Bite of alcohol- of course as 54,5 %.It is a different kind of rum then I prefere but I like this one.
Pusser’s amazes me that they can have a rum only aged years that I find sippable. This one is a little rough around the edges, but at 54.5% it is likewise pretty smooth considering the young age and strength. Initial scent Guyana molasses and greenwood fermentation The same taste carries through, I find this distinctly different than Blue Lable and gunpowder leans more to a young aged version of 15.
In aroma, it reminded me of dissolved Toffeefee (i.e. a disaster), but the very first sip had me in heaven. Great flavour, slightly salty (after all, you have to add a bit of seawater to real navy rum ;))
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

This limited edition is released by Pusser’s to commemorate the 52nd anniversary of Black Tot Day, July 31th 1970.
It’s named after the naval base Deptford Dockyard where the Navy’s most important spirit depot was established in 1742. At the depot there was around 30 storage vats that accommodated and aged more than 250,000 gallons of rum.
This rum, the Pusser’s Deptford Dockyard Reserve, is a blend of high esters rum from Guyana, Trinidad, Jamaica and Barbados just as the rum was in past. Today most of Pusser’s rum is a blend just from Guyana.
It’s aged for a minimum of three years in charred oak bourbon barrels before bottled at Gunpowder Proof level, 54,5%.
In nose it’s fruity, spicy, rich and flavorful with hints of tobacco, oak and dark chocolate.
In mouth and at the palate it tastes like the aromas, but also with hints of leather and Demerara sugar.
The long finish is dry, fruity and oaky with hints of salt, Sherry and almonds.
