A bit of molasses followed quickly by the burn of high proof alcohol. Can't taste much spice.
This rum was introduced to my on the tasting of spiced rums. I don't know. Salt and pepper - that's all I can say about this rum. Don't rely on the "spiced" - label. It's heavy gunpowder proof navy rum with addition of some spices. No sweetness. It would be great for lovers of overproofed rums or for authentic pirate parties.
I was doing a tasting session with several rums back to back and this was the only rum I hadnt tried before.
This rum tastes like someone spilt it on a freshly varnished wooden deck the soaked it back up with a mop then poured it back into the main body of rum, then labelled it spiced...
Rough as the high seas, full of characteristic peppery notes and burn.
Not the easiest rum to drink, tried it straight and mixed. Far from the worst, but expected more. Feels like it might be more complex, and could do with being poured over some ice, so it might grow on me.
Ill check back once I finished the bottle.
Now I have finished the bottle, I found that it mixes very well, and has a lot of character, though cant really recommend at the price point. If you want something that adds a little extra something to your cocktails without adding extra sweetness like many other spiced rums tend to, this would certainly be worth trying, though only if you can afford to not care about buying a reliable rum that is a fair bit cheaper. I easily would recommend over a cheap bacardi blanco, but I can't justify increasing it's score, but can certainly understand how some might like this as a go to mixer.
Warm on the pallet due to its prodigious ABV at 54.5%, but smooth with a caramelised banana finish. Excellent over ice or with a mixer. Either way try it with a slice (or more) of orange, it really works.
Try to get a well lit shot from the front of the rum label

This relatively new spiced rum from Pussers have replaced the old one at just ABV 35%.
Pusser’s says it’s blended to Admiralty specifications at ABV 54.5% and aged for a minimum of three years in charred oak bourbon barrels whereafter it’s mellowed with a subtle blend of spices.
The nose is sweet and spicy with hints of vanilla.
At the palate it’s sweet and tastes of vanilla, chocolate, banana, cinnamon and ginger are recognizable.
The finish is rather long, thanks to the 54,5%.
It’s okay to drink neat and much better than the old one.
I believe it could be great in cocktails and drinks.
